Fixing an Accidental Noindex: A Reproducible Page Audit

In our constructed guide, removing an accidental noindex changed the SEO diagnostic from 55 to 72. The overall score rose from 81 to 84, while GEO stayed at 65. Here is the source change and how we checked it.

The evidence before the fix

This is a measured test on constructed HTML, not a customer success story. The source has a title, headings, useful text and an explicit noindex, follow meta tag. The SEO indexable check reports fail. If the page is intentionally private or should not be indexed, that directive is a policy choice to keep.

For a public guide intended for search, trace the directive to the template or CMS setting that generated it. Check both the HTML meta tag and any X-Robots-Tag response header on a real deployment.

The edit and repeat audit

We changed only the robots meta value. The remaining HTML and all fixed environmental inputs stayed the same. The indexable check changed from fail to pass, removing its critical cap on the SEO dimension.

The engine then returned SEO 72/100 and overall 84/100. These are measured diagnostic changes. We have not measured Google indexing, ranking, clicks or AI citations for this example.

Inspect the complete evidence

Open the before HTML, after HTML and full sample report. The four-audit study explains the shared controls. The placeholder hostname in the data is not the site we scanned.

Verify a real deployment

After fixing an accidental exclusion, fetch the public URL again and verify that neither its HTML nor response headers excludes indexing. Use Search Console URL Inspection to check Google's view and canonical. Request indexing for a URL that should be indexed; eligibility does not guarantee indexing or AI inclusion.

The website grader provides an overview. Read the underlying SEO finding, and use the GEO checker as a content diagnostic alongside the indexing checks.
